residue
A few years ago on a flight to New Orleans, I met a flight attendant who had been involved with the military for many years. As we talked of my writing, she asked if I could write about Residue - something all she worked with talked about, but could not quite define - the following words have been embraced by many enlisted men and women as well as by commanding officers.
There is a part of everything we do left inside -
It’s always there
We can’t ever hide
From who we are
What we have done
There’s nowhere to hide
Nowhere to run
Questioning, questioning
How did I do
Did I make You proud
Will I make it through
The core of our being
Can help us stand tall
Knowing in our hearts
We gave it our all
So thank You for strength
for Grace from above
Thank you, God
for your undying love
